Animated title templates in widescreen format

Asked by Phil Wright

Hi, another rank newbie here :-)

I'm amazed at how good OpenShot is. Thanks for the great work.

I've created a project in widescreen DVD PAL (720 x 576) in OpenShot 1.4.2.

I've been messing around with it and everything works except the animated title templates are all in 4:3 format.

When I add still titles they're automatically 16:9, but animated titles are always in 4:3, so either they're a 4:3 block in the middle of the 16:9 video, or I have to change the title's clip properties so it fits, but then it's stretched out.

How do I create an animated title in 16:9 format using one of the supplied templates? Or is that not possible?

Thanks.

Hi,
NOrmally, it is done automatically when you choose a project (4/3 or 16/9).
Do you Have this issue with only one Animated Titles (in this case, which one) or with all ?
On which system are you ?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I've read that the animated title's aspect ration should be set automatically, but it's just not happening for me for some reason.

I'm running OpenShot 1.4.2 on Xubuntu 12.04 x64. The hardware is an i7 quad core with 8 gig of ram in a Toshiba Satellite P750Q laptop.

The installed blender version is 2.62.0.

I get the same problem with all animated titles.

I've checked and rechecked, and I can't see what's wrong. I don't 'need' the animated titles, so it's not a critical issue, but I would like to use them if I can.

How do you see that they don't have the good aspect ratio ?

I can't reproduce it (on an even configuration => 4 cores/ 8 gig of ram, 64 bits an Ubuntu Precise, Os 1.4.3, ).

The animated titles don't fill the 16:9 video frame horizontally, although they do fill the frame vertically. There is a large gap between the sides of the video and the sides of the title. This is most noticeable with animated titles that also contain a background texture. I would upload a screenshot but there doesn't seem to be any way to do that on this site.

At first I thought perhaps it was just a problem in the preview, because the thumbnail of the animated title is displayed in 4:3 while the thumbnail of the video is 16:9, but the finished video also displays the animated title as a 4:3 box in the center of the wider 16:9 frame.

You could upload a screenshot when you open a bug report, not when you ask a question. But you can use some internet tool like discurv, Imageshare,.... putting simply a link.

Well, The milestone 1.4.3 is nearly closed (and we are very busy in our private life and working on the framework) that we can't do something for this time.
The next milestone will introduce our framework and as all will be new, we'll take a look at this issue that we have never seen that before. Hum, you should open a bug report, I will linked this question with. Like this, it won't be lost in the bug tracker.
To my side, soon as I have the time, I will do some tests to confirm that.
Thanks a lot to help us to render Openshot better (and to use it too. :-) )

Thanks, I have created a bug report about this problem.

I have discovered that via the MediaInfo utility that the aspect ratio of the animated titles is actually 5:4.

Is it a coincidence that my monitor has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, ie. 5:4?

At this level, I must said that I don't know. Effectively, that's strange.

Slightly different issue, but possibly related: I have noticed titles on my widescreen project also failed to correctly scale - essentially leaving my title centered in the middle of the video with room on either side. Editing in Inkscape confirmed the .svg file was, in fact, 4:3 when my project was 16:9. Changing the document properties in Inkscape to match the project's pixel settings (and aspect ratio) resolved the issue.
