circular dependencies issues

Asked by Aaron Ceyanes

Hi, My name's Aaron...

I'm a relative newbie to linux. I started on Onery Ocelot with numerous installation problems. Those were resolved by replacing a CD/DVD drive and adding RAM. I had been pleased until I tried capturing video to my PC from my camcorder to my tuner/video card. I initially tried with OpenShot, then replaced it with KdenLive. It seems the issue was not originally with either app, but rather with either the hardware or drivers. I recently purchased a component to USB video cable/card and was having the same issues... no capture.

I searched for drivers by everything external I could find on the "part" Geniatech(parent company?), MyGica(make), iGrabber(model). and came up short. It was a simple matter to crack the case and get the following info from the card/chip.

on the 3 chips:
empia
EM2860
P86J3-011
201047-01AG

Trident
SAA7113H
CT1755 10
TSG10522

eMPIA
Technology
EMP202
VT11860
1016

and printed on the card:
HandyCap
v1.51
2007-4-24

I haven't checked all these numbers yet, as this was just yesterday, but I have tried removing KdenLive and re-installing OpenShot. I get similar results and messages from both Ubuntu Software Center and Synaptic, though more details when I use Synaptic.

The issues seem to revolve around:
Python-mlt3
melt
libmlt

OpenShot marks melt and libmlt5 for removal, then marks adding: libmlt++3, libmlt4, python-mlt3,
then proceeds to tell me that OpenShot can't install because melt will not be installed.

current melt version installed: 0.7.9+git20120420.3e2c5773-0ubuntu0~sunab~oneiric1

UbuntuStudio-video cannot be installed because OpenShot will not be installed
Other issues which may or may not be pertinent:
*Last night, I upgraded Ubuntu to Precise 12.04
*Though it tries daily, the last successful backup was 23 days ago. the error returned is 500
*I have downloaded the Live DVD iso for UbuntuStudio but have not burned the image to disc yet.

I had the 'restricted extras' on 11.10, but I'm not sure what's going on with the 12.04 update...

So, my questions are, how do I get video from my camcorder to my PC, and how do I get openshot back?

Hi,

So much question that don't concern us. If I was you, for your hardware problem, I'll check on Ubuntu's Wiki and not specially English wiki .The French wiki (http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/accueil) is huge of documentation (for sample http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/materiel). If you don't find a google search could help you. This forum could help you (if this subject has not been already opened)=>http://ubuntuforums.org/

About Openshot now.
Openshot doesn't provide a mean to get a video directly from a DV or HDV camcorder. But dvgrab can do that but in a console.
YOu must install melt too. But like you have done a compilation, I am thinking that you should remove this application with the option purge in Synaptic. You can have easily this library in Precise because it is the lastest stable version. If you want a version mor e up-to-date like you , you should better use the experimental svn PPA of Sunab. Anyway, a compilation is difficult to remove for the common user.
See here how to have the last version of MLT https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1861
And thoses could be helpful for you :
http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1261
https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1850
Good luck, you should certainly install UbuntuStudio if you have not a success to desinstall correctly MLT (compiling version).

Thanks. I will look into these resources when I have time again. I did manage to get melt and openshot both re-installed, though I don't remember exactly how I did it.
