Animated Rotation Center

Asked by Patrick Wever

I just installed OpenShot 1.4.2-1 on my Ubuntu computer. It works fine, however when I use the animated rotation effect, it does not rotate around the center of the clip. Does anybody know where the center of rotation is and how is can be adjusted?

I found something that resembles my problem, Bug #475073, however that should have been fixed in release 1.4.1.

Hi,
You have two ways to use this effect.
The most simple is to select the clip to rotate and choose after a right clic the submenu rotation this one that you want (i.e 90, 180,..)
After the second way is to modifie the parameters of this effect. Go to clip s' preferences, last tab, select the effect and modifie the parameters, play the preview to see the result before to apply.

Hi Cenwen,

Thanks for your reply, however that does not solve my problem. I have experimented with the animation effect and just to get the picture in view I have to use an Y-offset of the height of the picture. Thereafter the picture is rotating around the original center and it then rotates out of view. Somehow the center of rotation is off.
I am using the dutch version together with Ubuntu 10.04. I still have to try it in the english version to see if that fixes the problem (as the problem resembles an earlier bug concerning the point and semi-column in the rotating effect).

This effect is complex for the common user and I know why I'm speaking because I have got the same problem like you there a while. Like I was not understanding how he was working, I've send a mail to Jonathan. And after this explanation I was able to do something with this effect. At this moment, Jonathan have decided to add a new entry in the menu clip which is more simple for the user.
You should play the option. For sample try 90 to the 4 options and see the result in the preview. For what you want see in the 5 options and try for sample 45 and see the result. This is could be a good start for your comprehension of this effect.
The two last could help you too. For sample put 40 in the before the last and see the result.
Good luck

Hai Cenwen,

I just tried the effect in the English version of Ubuntu and that solved my problem. So the language bug as stated earlier in this post still exists for the Dutch version of Ubuntu. Bug #475073.
