rendering operation freezes at the end and will not complete

When using openshot video to combine several avi videos with in and out fades, everything works fine until the video is rendered to a dvd. That appears to work fine too except at the end, the progress bar window does not close. The process freezes and eventually pops up a window offering to continue or force quit. In the location where the rendered video is supposed to appear, a text file with zero bytes appears with the video name on it.

This has happened on two separate videos. What is really odd is that a month ago it worked just fine with no issues.

I am running Linux Mint 12 regular edition - 64 bit. Same issue occurs on both gnome 3 and cinnamon desktops. There is a screencast, but I don't see a way to attach it to this post.
