Webm codec not there or not working, error message doesn't help

Asked by Ian Clark

Trying to encode in Webm format, says I don't have the codecs, leads me to FAQ1040 which isn't about these codecs. I install these codecs anyway (unstripped and extra) and the same error message appears.

How then, can I install the webm codec?

Using Ubuntu 10.04

Hi,

You can check in the Preferences (CTRL + P) in the second tab which codecs/formats are present on your system.

Anyway, you are on 10.04 and the version of FFmpeg available is the 0.5.xxx. Now, you must have the version 0.6.2 or greater of FFmpeg. The only solution on Lucid is to compile it.
Good luck for that.

Can you help with this problem?
