Are quicktime movie files supported?

Asked by PaulW

I opened up a .mov file in the program. When I click the play button it goes to the end of the file and not video is seen. Is this type of file supported by OpenShot? Do I need to convert it first?

HI,
Yes Openshot can use this kind of files. After, it can be a specific .mov (i.e. a proprietary format created by a proprietary firm with a special micro-code which will need to do a conversion before). It is the same problem with the H264 which is a norm and the x264 which is a codec. And it is not the same and do a difference.
For sample, I know that the .mov AVid are not working on Linux and it is well a .mov file but in the "Avid style".
Same a conversion can do nothing.
The best is to test. Could you send us the information of this type of file ? Just to see.
Thanks.
