new to video editing, a bit of a luddite - old person please be nice and patient

I've managed to put a video to edit into open shot. It's on track 2 (does that make a difference?)

My tool bar doesn't have the last three editing tools (markers) shown in the tutorial.

I'm not sure if the markers have been added to cut the video. When I press the buttons in the preview window sometimes it goes all the way back to the beginning, sometimes to the marker, it doesn't stop where (I think) I've put the second marker.

The timeline sequence is just one frame. I can't see clearly the red line.

 (I just want around 10 secs in the middle of 1min47). I can't work out how to just play (check) and (then) keep the bit (I hope) I've edited.

I think you would be best advised to head over to our forum, www.openshotusers.com/forum, it's an easier environment than Launchpad for this type of discussion.
