Hi,
The first think that you must do is to check all your dependencies like here (http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=758).
The second think is to tell us on which version are you working (of distribution) , mlt, ffmpeg.
Thanks.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04. I don't really understand "The second thing is to tell us on which version are you working (of distribution) , mlt, ffmpeg." I installed kdenlive, a different video editor which I saw mlt .70 listed.

This is just the 3rd line from the install page (http://www.openshot.org/ppa/) It doesn't say anything about having to install dependencies or anything else. I thought it would automatically install all dependencies?

It looks like it is a "doc", I would guess documentation? If so I really don't care about it.

Do I just go into Package manager and check each individual file?

Thanks,
Brad

I went into SPM, when I type python-mlt (one of the dependencies) it only shows python-mlt3 and python-mlt4. If I try to install 3 it wont. It gives me the same "python-mlt3 but it is not going to be installed" error. Maybe this is an 11.04 thing, maybe openshot isn't compatible with it? I figured out it isn't a doc file, I went down the list from the ppa page and the program isn't installed at all.

Adding some externals PPA you can have the last version of some softwares /packages who are not available in the official repositories. They can bring some new features, new bug corrections and sometimes more problems (like it seems mlt 0.7.0 (and mlt 0.72 is the same thing)).

What is your version of ffmpeg , the official or this one of Medibuntu repository ? You should use the last for having the H264/3gp support. Anyway, it is preferable to use it.

How know your ffmpeg version (in a console) :
sudo apt-cache show ffmpeg

Which is the version of Kdenlive ? official or the last ? This one breaks Openshot.

In the link that I have given you (http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=758), you have all the dependencies for the last version 1.3.0 availaible (in fact today 1.3.1). All this dependencies are needed for this version. And it is not loose time to check if all is installed. Use synaptic, or your usual package manager for that. Anyway the message that you have signify that you need a version but a software that you have already installed need a more highter version.

I have the last version of kdenlive .8. After a lot more searching and some questions on the Ubuntu forums. I came to the conclusion that Kdenlive and openshot aren't compatible. I am just going to stick with Kdenlive, since it works and I can't get Openshot to.

So, you have add the repository Sunab. I not believe that this version (0.80) is in the official repository which is more the 0.7.8.
Openshot works well if you have this one (0.7.8) installed. However, if you wish use the both (i.e. Openshot 1.3.1 and Kdenlive 0.7.8) you could use the option ppa-purge. You install it and use the following command in a terminal : sudo ppa-purge andtheaddressoftheppainquestion.
This action will remove the version installed and you can install after the version available in the official repository.

Can you help with this problem?
