PPA Install fails on Bodhi 1.0

Asked by S White

When I attempt to install via PPA as per instructions on the OpenShot download page I get the following error message:

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonoomp/openshot-edge/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonoomph/openshot/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

The install fails. There is no OpenShot item in my menu. There is a "openssh" in the usr directory.

Any help would be appreciated, as Bodhi's installer for version 1.2.2 fails as well.

I am not familiar with Bodhi Linux. However, the link it is searching for is incorrect. The correct URL is http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonoomph/openshot-edge/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/. So, I'm not sure if you made a mistake on setting up the PPA, but hopefully that will help you out. =)

Thanks for the response, Jonathan. Just for information purposes, the ppa: I tried to use at first came straight off the Openshot Download page.

Since that failed I was glad to try adding the ppa you gave and it too failed with a message of:

"Error: 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonoomph /openshot-edge/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386' invalid"

I also tried it both with and without the space between "jonoomph" and "/openshot..." that was in the link embedded in your reply.

So, I guess I'm still stuck. I've posted on the Bodhi forums as well. We'll see what comes up.

Thanks again,

-Steve

Hi,
Body is based on Ubuntu Lucid with Enlightment environment. so you can install the ppa by this way :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonoomph/openshot-edge
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openshot openshot-doc
I am thinking that Launchpad was not available the first time for you.
Try again and it is very beautiful distribution. I have tried Sunday evening. ^ ^

Hi Cenwen,

Thanks for the assistance! Unfortunately, this attempt also failed with the following error message:
---------------------------------------------------------------
steve@steve-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install openshot openshot-doc
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
openshot-doc is already the newest version.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
openshot: Depends: python-mlt3 but it is not going to be installed or
python-mlt2 but it is not going to be installed or
python-mlt but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
----------------------------------------------

So, am I wrong to surmise that this means I must have Python working to specs for OpenShot to install properly?

Ah you must update your MLT version.
Anyway you must too check all your dependencies . So see here : http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=758 and like you are a Ubuntu User (derivated okay but it is the same ^^⁾, you have the link for use the sunab repository for having the last version stable of MLT. After add this one, update and install the new version of MLT (search the package melt), re-done the action that you have done for Openshot. And normally, all will be okay. And when it will be done, if you can put the solution on the Bhodi forum, it will good.
Anyway, Thanks.

I will be away from the computer in question for the next few days. I'll check the dependencies as you describe upon my return, and will post the results as you requested.

Merci beaucoup! J'apprécie beaucoup vos efforts à la fois nature et de votre patience. Pardonnez-moi si mon Français est très mauvais. Il a été près de 40 ans depuis que j'ai étudié à l'école secondaire.

For record-keeping purposes I have changed status to "Just Add a Comment" since it would otherwise remain in unsolved status unneccessarily.

No problem and I have seen your post on our forum (http://www.openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=863).
There is several ways to install on Bohdi. A apt url (I must said that I don't know how it is working), the Synaptic method and a special Bohdi package (with an extension .bod). I must said that I have not found some explanations how they can created this package.

About your "old" French. ^ ^

SUCCESS!

Here's how it went:

1) Ran sudo apt-get update,
2) Getting all the dependencies squared away, (trying to install python-mlt2 was a nightmare, so I gave up on it)
3) Installed python-httplib2 (Thank you, Delin7!)
4) Installed OpenShot 1.3.0 with Synaptic Package Manger
5) OpenShot now runs smooth as silk on my ancient Fujitsu T3010 (Pentium M 1.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 120GB HD)

Suuuhweeet!

Merci beaucoup, Cenwen! Si jamais nous rencontrer, je vais acheter le vin!
