No sound when previewing

When I preview my video project there is no sound. The mute buttons are not clicked. I'm using ALSA and not pulse audio. It didn't work with Pulse Audio either.

Have you got libsdl1.2debian-alsa installed (the version number might be different to this, depending on what is in your distributions repository)?

The preview window in Openshot is an SDL window. libsdl enables SDL to output to your onbaord sound system.

I've tried this and I still have no sound on Ubuntu 10.04. What else could I try?

It turns out I have no sound only on *.3gp files captured from my android phone. Is there a sound codec or something missing to support this file type?

I found a workaround, which is to convert the files to .AVI first.

I used the miksoft video converter, which turns out to be awesome:
