OOo3: unable to edit MS Word documents with TOC

Asked by EmmaJane

I followed the tutorial at: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-To-Install-OpenOffice-org-3-0-in-Ubuntu-8-10-96449.shtml to upgrade OOo in Ubuntu 8.10 to OOo v3. This tutorial said to use the following package: http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu

Unfortunately this is a build for OOO300m9 (Build:9358). This build pre-dates the fix for the bug whereby a table of contents in an MS Word document renders it "read-only."

See information for the bug at:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/215420
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=90306

The only work around I have found is to copy the contents of a new file, make my changes and save the document. I have to do this each time the document is opened. There are no sections marked "write-protected" and the read-only (with no sections marked "write-protected") can be reproduced each time the document is opened.

What sources should I use to build OOo so that I can take advantage of this bug fix?
