OpenOffice

When OO starts it always says it is recovering a [.ods] file, but it always fails. How do I stop this?

Why do I get a dialogue which says "Document Recovery" EVERY time I boot up Open Office?
 It also says 'report ... the problem by choosing "Next" but is no NEXT option?
When I 'start recovery' it always 'fails'.

if you run:

cd ~; ls -a

you will see the hidden folders containing the configs for your apps. If you then rename the ones which relate to openoffice (DON'T delete) then you can rerun the app and get vanilla settings. If the solution is OK then you can NOW delete the folder, if not then delete the current openoffice config folder and rename the original back in (This is called a rollback path and is very professional)

Many thanks for this no doubt good advice, however before trying it, just to test, I took the option to 'Cancel' recovery rather than 'Start recovery'. The recovery dialogue no longer appears: maybe wherever OpenOffice gets its information from to carry out the recovery got corrupted or deleted. So problem fixed, thanks.
