localization: account name/types translation

I need to display the account name/account types in different languages, depending on user's preferences, e.g. Vietnamese or English as it's legal to have different languages (as long as the account code is not changed). However, these account names and types are not translatable any more. How can I work around that? What was the rationale to disable this translation properties?

translate=True,
to the field description
