what is meant by preview section in Document management system

Hi,
I have attached some documenst in one folder Document management system.

when i select(click) on the attached document ,i can see the Prview section empty when the
selected document type is .doc or .txt.
But i can see the preview if the attached file is a .jpg file

Why is it so?

am using Openerp version 5.0.7 on windows 7.

i have installed from the
All in one for windows installer link.

what is the difference between Preview Section and Indexed content section in Document management system

Hello Bushair,

Preview section is used for picture only means if you attached .jpg or any picture or logo, It will show you in preview section.
If you attached .txt file then there is nothing for preview. It will show you the text file content in Indexed Content Tab.
It is obvious thing that there is no need to show up preview of text or doc file.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the answer.

If i attach a pdf will it be showing in the indexed content tab?

if yes, do i need to install something else to show the content

right now it is showing only the .txt contents...not the contents of .doc or .pdf.

what should i do to get .pdf and .doc in the indexed content tab?

Obvious? As an example Alfresco would make previews of any file (will display the first page of a PDF file for example) not just images ;)

A better answer would be to say that creating image previews of non-image files is currently too complex to implement.

Bushair: Indexing PDF files seems to work for us out of the box (though it only gets the text from the PDF).

Hello Bushair,

Indexing PDF files is not working in windows.So need to check i think it is bug.
You can post a separate bug.

As current tiny code the preview (Attachment Form) is available for only following format type data only:
'png','jpg','jpeg','gif','bmp'.

I have created a Bug saying that the Indexing PDF files is not working in windows
