Deprecated modules in extra-addons?

Asked by Alejandro Santana

I see that, for version 6.1 at least, 'edi' module exists in extra-addons (http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~openerp-commiter/openobject-addons/trunk-extra-addons/files/head:/edi/) and also an updated, more recent version in the official addons repository (http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~openerp/openobject-addons/6.1/files/head:/edi/).

Shouldn't the extra-addons version of edi be removed or marked as deprecated?

And... also, there are other modules that have moved to the new editor-reviewed repositories. Here is the list I found so far:

# extra-addons/account_chart_update
# extra-addons/account_financial_report
# extra-addons/account_fiscal_position_rule
# extra-addons/account_fiscal_position_rule_purchase
# extra-addons/account_fiscal_position_rule_sale
# extra-addons/account_fiscal_position_rule_stock
# extra-addons/account_payment_extension
# extra-addons/account_product_fiscal_classification
# extra-addons/account_renumber
# extra-addons/account_reversal
# extra-addons/base_sale_multichannels
# extra-addons/paydays
# extra-addons/purchase_payment
# extra-addons/pxgo_bank_statement_analytic
# extra-addons/pxgo_bank_statement_running_balance
# extra-addons/pxgo_cash_statement
# extra-addons/sale_exceptions
# extra-addons/sale_payment

Hello Alejandro,

Some of us think it's better not to remove modules from the extra-addons in
the wild because some implementations in production on 6.0 or 6.1 may still
depend on these modules and may be don't want to bother updating their bzr
branches and take risks to update with important changes being made.

Instead, we think it' better to just let the extra-addos die from the 7.0
series and onward. Let good modules be extracted in separate branches
preserving history using https://launchpad.net/bazaar-extractor and then
evolved to newer versions. And get rid of the weakest modules, there isn't
big moral issues with that with software ;-)

Now, may be that branch could be flagged as deprecated. I think only
OpenERP SA can do that. You can die crying for it, may be they hear you,
may be not.

Regards.

OK, fair enough. It's just sometimes you can lose track of repositories and modules and you don't know there is a "next step".
Thanks for the explanation.
