Cant install Modules

Asked by OpenMercury

Hello,

I'm trying to install Chart of accounts Module: l10n_chart_us_general in a 5.0 installation.
I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I have tried to update the repository. No luck. I have done a CO of svn and downloaded the modules/addons and built a zip (which didn't work for me). I mapped the directory w/ the Modules/Addon's to the Server Startup command --addons= and nothing.

I'm more than happy to read anything I need to but I'm stumped. I haven' t been able to find anything at all on how to get 300+ modules list updated/expanded.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Scott

This addon is still not a part of the v5.0 installation. However its available in the trunk. Which means its not ready yet and will most likely undergo change before it gets included. If you want to use it, you can download it from here: http://www.openerp.com/download/modules/trunk/l10n_chart_us_general.zip

If you are trying to install the module on Ubuntu intrepid, then there's a bug I am afraid. You cannot import the module through openerp due to permission related issues. You can circumvent this by unzipping the module and installing the unzipped file in the following location: /usr/lib/pyhton2.5/site-packages/openemr-server/addons. Remember that you need to do this with the sudo command. Then in open erp go to:

Administration > Modules Management > Update Modules List and follow the instructions.

You will have your module activated.

I discovered two things after my answer above.

If you install this way then you need to change the permissions of the folder and its contents to be able to read and write by the user. Since you installed them with the sudo command they will belong to root and as a user you will be able to update the module list but unable to use the module.

Secondly a module that is in the trunk is not ready yet for installation and may even lead to the client crashing. I found this happening with two modules that I tried. I suspect this will be the case with the module of your interest as well.

I need to file bugs, but the funny thing is that launchpad does not bugtrack open erp! Huh!

Can you help with this problem?
