new install and localization

Asked by John Tatum

Doing a new install of openerp 6 in NJ US. I see that the localization modules are still in development and am wondering whether or not to install currently and how my choice now will affect later once the localization modules are released. e.g. are the modules ready for a production environment? If I don't install now, will it make it difficult to utilize the new modules after release, etc.

Hi John,

Actually the code is always in development and not static.
Currently it is at the 6.0.X level.

What you can do is install the code in your dev/test environment and validate that it works prior to dropping into production.
This is advised for all downloaded code - our branch or others.

You can use the code - without warranty of course from the group - and as background it is used in production in numerous companies that we are aware of.

Much of the code is going through some refactoring/clean-up today and looking at 6.1 to see the affect of the arch changes.
We just created some new segments as a result.

I recommend you review the bazaar in 5 minutes instruction if you're not familiar with it.
Bazaar enables you to pull the latest code - which should do in a test/dev environment first - validate the code - and then if your UAT passes - then move code into production efficiently.

As a process - you should never pull code and drop it directly into production.

Does that help?

You can install them at any time during your process.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask John Tatum for more information if necessary.
