Proposing Possible modifications to Rental End date

I am looking to add extended functionality to the current Rental Module. Currently it requires to specify the end date of rental and confirming the sales order. I would like to modify this to also allow open ended rentals. The end date to be left open and sales order left in draft state until return of the rental Items. Then to be able to create invoice at the time of the return of rented item for the number of days the customer had item.

Possible scenarios
1) Renting to a customer who starts rental on the 1st of month and returns rental on the 15th at that time the sales order is completed and an invoice is generated for 14 days of rental time.

2) Multiple Invoices monthly invoices on longer term rentals. Example a customer starts a rental on the 15th of the month but keeps the item until the 20th of the next month. The Customer would receive invoice for payment of the first 15 days at end of 1st month. When the customer returns rental item on the 20 then next month they would then be invoiced for the additional 20 days

I am posing this question to see if this additional functionality is something you would see as value to add to current module and would be interested in cooperating in its development
