Problem with dependencies

Asked by clemens

Hello,

I have tried installing oohanzi after adding the PPA repositories. It adds the libraries, but when its is time to add the webdict and oohanzi proper it says that there are dependencies errors. I have Open Office 2.4.1, running on cruncheee, a light version of crunchbang (ubuntu).
What should I do?
Cheers

Sorry, I replied some time ago to your personal email forgetting about posting here. Here is my message:

Hello,

first of all thank you for developing this software and for writing me.
I do the sudo apt-get install oohanzi, the computer starts working (100%ram).
It stays forever on setting up 00unihan (0.4ubuntu1). I tried waiting almost an hour (twice) but nothing. So I pressed Ctrl+C and then it says

^CERROR: oounihan was not installed succesfully for OpenOffice.org.
This may mean that
  1) there’s something wrong with the OpenOffice.org installation
  2) this oounihan package is not fully compatible with your
     version of OpenOffice.org
  3) this oounihan package is corrupted.
dpkg: error processing oounihan (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Then this starts: Setting up oowebdict (0.2ubuntu1) ...
Again the same and get

^CERROR: oowebdict was not installed succesfully for OpenOffice.org.
This may mean that
  1) there’s something wrong with the OpenOffice.org installation
  2) this oowebdict package is not fully compatible with your
     version of OpenOffice.org
  3) this oowebdict package is corrupted.
dpkg: error processing oowebdict (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of oohanzi:
oohanzi depends on oounihan (>= 0.4); however:
Package oounihan is not configured yet.
oohanzi depends on oowebdict (>= 0.2); however:
Package oowebdict is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing oohanzi (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
No apport report written because the error message indicates its a followup error from a previous failure.
                          Errors were encountered while processing:
 oounihan
 oowebdict
 oohanzi

It seems that unihan cannot set up correctly.
I have an eeepc 1000 with cruncheee installed (based on ubuntu intrepid).
I have installed the relative PPA libraries (adding the source and the key).
What should I do?
All the best,

I'm pretty sure the problem is that the installation scripts are unable to register the extensions with Open Office. Unfortunately, automatically registering extensions which are provided by DEB files is not a simple matter. The installation scripts have to call upon tools which come with Open Office but which are not designed with user-friendliness in mind: they can fail mysterious ways.

I would suggest using the manual installation method rather than the repository. I would ideally like to find the real problem but I do not have the resources to figure out what may be happening on CrunchEEE installations. I checked the CrunchBangLinux web site and see that Open Office is not listed among the standard apps bundled with the distribution. That's a cause for concern.

I asked you for the error message just in case it would be something clear and easily fixable but the cause of the issue you are reporting is obscure. I've inspected and reinspected the installation scripts and cannot find what the problem would be.

The manual installation procedure is documented here:

http://lddubeau.com/downloads/openoffice/extensions/oohanzi-0.6-doc.odt

Look for the section called "Simpler Manual Installation". This should work. Please report on whether this is successful or not.

Can you help with this problem?
