Will it be possible to use the keyboard executable without having the introspection .typelibs installed?

Asked by Tim Turner

Onboard is pretty much perfect for me except for two things. Primarily that it requires the introspection typelibs to be installed, and secondarily that it requires python. So I was extremely pleased to find this project.

Looking through the makefiles though, I see that it still has checks for Gobject Introspection. Will we still need to have the typelibs installed on our system to run the keyboard executable, or is the GIR check just for optional extras?

OnboardOSK uses/will use C libraries directly wherever possible. The gir packages that Python Onboard required, most likely won't be needed anymore. Most likely, because I'm not completely sure ATM until I get to finally finish Debian packaging.

The project creates its own typelib however, I believe this is what you found concerning Gobject Introspection. We need this for integration with GNOME Shell. It is not a part of the core keyboard, though, meaning a (theoretical) standalone (i.e. not a GNOME Shell extension) application won't need even that typelib.

Hope that helps, sorry again for the delay.
