Touchpad mouse lag with Onboard virtual keyboard --solved

After installing Onboard virtual keyboard on my laptop i would get a highly annoying delay or lag after each key press. I managed to track it down to the touchpad being turned off when typing,, which is a bit odd since I'm not using physical keyboard. Hope this helps people,
