Onboard should pick up your current keyboard layout. Try changing your keyboard layout to Bengali in gnome-keyboard-properties and then running onboard.

I asked a related question on the Ubuntu Onboard launchpad page and received no reply yet.

I've set up the Gnome keyboard layouts from Keyboard Preferences to USA and Arabic.

I want to use onboard but it fails to show the Arabic layout when I select it from the GUI selector (or ALT+Shift). If I run "setxkbmap ar" onboard shows a working arabic layout nicely, however this breaks the gnome selector and I can't select the USA layout back with ALT+shift or GUI selector. If I set up setxkbmap to use both us and ar keymaps Onboard doesn't display an Arabic keymap when I switch between them.

Is there a way to get onboard to follow the active keymap in a dual language setup like mine?

(Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 running Onboard 0.93.0)

The fonctionality you are looking for has been added to onboard and is currently being tested. It should be available with the next release of onboard.
