Although I have to admit that it is kinda stupid to give answers to questions you asked yourself, I'll do it anyway, as I found out something about uTouch and MeeGo in the meantime: Fortunately, the uTouch framework does use a lot of the functionality that has been already there—the kernel multitouch interface, mtdev, X Input 2.1,…—and the Ubuntu community/Canonical is activly pushing these technologies forward. Furthermore, according to Nokia, MeeGo is heavily cooperating with Ubuntu on multitouch. Very interesting lecture: http://conference2010.meego.com/session/multi-touch-meego-hardware-user

Not only that, but we worked directly with Nokia to get Qt4 MT into Ubuntu, using uTouch and XI2.1. Chase blogged about it here:
