nXhtml on Mac OS X

Asked by small.objects

Is there anybody out there who is using nXhtml on Mac OS X?

I tried to set it up 2 months ago and it didn't load. Retried today again
with the latest version and still fails to even load but with a different error.

error: Wrong nxml-mode=/sw/share/emacs23/site-lisp/nxml-mode/nxml-mode.elc used, please use the one that comes with Emacs

I am using Emacs.app (23.0.0) and the nxml mode that comes with it via Fink.

Hi small.objects,

As the error messages says your Emacs is loading an old version of nxml-mode. That can not be used with Emacs 23 (which includes nxml-mode). So you must remove loading the old version.

Are you loading it yourself or is it something in site-start that is loading it?

You may also want to look at bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/nxhtml/+bug/354363 where we discovered this problem.

I wasn't loading it myself. When I was trying to find out how exactly it gets loaded
I noticed that I have a really old build of emacs 23 (2007). I checked out the latest
version from CVS and built it and nXhtml seems to load without errors for now so I am
marking this is as "solved".

Thanks for telling us. Please notice that there will soon be a new release of nXhtml (probably version number 1.88).
