How to turn off auto-validation

The auto-validation is too intensive on my daughter's small early netbook. She would prefer to edit awhile, and then validate. How can she turn off the auto-validation? I looked through the menus, but couldn't see anything that quite matched.

Thanks for the question. Maybe this should be a FAQ.

It is in the XML menu because validation is based on nxml-mode (and the XML menu is for this mode).-
