Why is Rdio blacklisted on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

Asked by Mike Bridge

When I launch nuvolaplayer 1.0.5 on Ubuntu 12.0.4 get the following:

Nuvola Warning Bug 958154 window size: 1010×534
Nuvola Warning Service pandora is blacklisted.
Nuvola Warning Service rdio is blacklisted.
Nuvola Warning Service pandora is blacklisted.
Nuvola Warning Service rdio is blacklisted.

I can't find any documentation which says what the blacklist means.... I am in Canada, so I can run rdio when I am in Windows.

Any idea how to disable this?

Thanks,

-mike

Hi,

Rdio is blacklisted when WebKitGTK 1.8 is detected, because Rdio doesn't work with that version because of bug #973719. See also bug #958154.

I was unable to make Pandora work on Ubuntu 12.04 under Chromium. I recently upgraded chromium, which I think pushed in a new WebKitGTK 1.8. Pandora now works under Chromium, but because of the blacklist, I can't try it in Nuvola. As the original poster said - is there a way to manually manage the blacklist (perhaps in .local/config).

I think Chromium doesn't use WebKitGTK but its own WebKit port, so Chromium upgrades are completely irrelevant. What version of libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 do you have installed? (type "dpkg-query -W libwebkitgtk-1.0-0" in terminal)

Blacklist can be overridden in ~/.config/nuvolaplayer/main.conf, default value is:

bug958154_blacklist = googlemusic, pandora, rdio, amazon

Overriding the blacklist allows you to select the service but I had to downgrade webkit to get the service to work. I followed the directions here:

http://www.elgali.net/2012/05/14/gwt-designer-eclipse-plugin-in-ubuntu-12-04/

It usually works without issue but every now and then I have to purge the browser cache to get the service to load or purge the album art to get the art to update in the notifications.

Can you help with this problem?
