You can not install or you can not configure ?
I had the same problem, but to configure. You
should run nvidia-xconfig as root, sudo su - .
also you should start nvidia-settings as root,
because when you run as normal user, with
menu "system, administration, nvidia x server
settings", you are not allowed to change
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, there is unfortunately
no error message, when it fails.

A driver installation may fail for a number of reasons. Users may be running a program in the background that inteferes with the installation. If Windows is performing a background Windows Update, a driver installation may also fail.
