linux can attach volume in desktop-image,but it can not be used

We made a new ubuntu image follow the document in offical web,and it can attach the instance.But the volume can not be display in the instance /dev list.So this means it can attache , but can not be used.I think the document of the offical has some error,because the default image which from internet and Windows instance can attache and use.
