OpenStack Compute (Nova)

Single Node DevStack Install - Cannot SSH Guest

Asked by Fredric M on 2012-05-24

Hello All,

I have set up a clean install, single node Ubuntu 11.10 machine, which I have set up DevStack on using all default settings (no changes to nova.conf etc.).
By default, DevStack uploads a small test image to glance, CirrOS.

The CirrOS image boots OK and I can ping it over the bridge setup by nova. However, when I try to SSH into it using

ssh -l cirros 10.0.0.2

I get connection refused. I have set what corresponds to

nova secgroup-add-rule default tcp 22 22 -s 0.0.0.0/0

in the Horizon web interface.
Does anybody have any idea what migh be wrong?

I can give more technical details about settings if necessary, but I figured someone would directly know what is wrong in this as-standard-as-can-be setup.

Thanks,
Fredric

Hello again,

it turned out it was the UEC cloud setup procedure wich did not succeed during boot and delayed starting of the SSH server daemon.

If you do not need the UEC cloud setup, add

IS_NOCLOUD=1

to /var/lib/cloud/config.local.sh in the VM guest image.
