OpenStack Compute (Nova)

NetApp volume configuration

Asked by Muneyuki Noguchi on 2012-04-20

I'd like to use a NetApp storage appliance with the NetApp volume driver in the Essex release.

Does the NetApp volume driver work with KVM?
If it works, what configuration is need for nova-compute nodes and nova-volume nodes?

Depends what is fixed:
NetApp or KVM or both

You can make this work using XenServer's storage manager integration:

Both are fixed.

Unlike XenServer, no wiki page or official document refers to the NetApp volume driver with KVM. So I'd like to make sure whether the NetApp volume driver works with KVM. This is one of my questions.

A quick google found this:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/netapp-volume-driver

the code says this:
This driver requires NetApp OnCommand 5.0 and one or more Data
ONTAP 7-mode storage systems with installed iSCSI licenses.

It also lists the flags you need to configure the driver:
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/4718/1/nova/volume/netapp.py

Vish will probably know more details.

Hope that helps,
John
