Can nova-compute run on a machine other than the physical host?

Can the nova-compute service run on a machine other than the physical host, and interact with libvirt remotely? Or must it run on the physical machine?

We're interested in using OpenStack with Tilera processors, which may not be able to support running nova-compute and the related Python dependencies.

Yup ... it's only with XenServer (currently) requires Compute to run on the physical host.
