notify-osd not functioning after switching from gdm to slim.

Asked by 2lss

I recently switched from gdm to slim on my Ubuntu 10.04 install and somehow in the process notify-osd reverted to the old notification-daemon type messages (i.e. the old box ones). Also, if I send a message from the terminal (notify-send) I still get the box-type notifications.

I'm not exactly sure how the notify-osd/notification-daemon stack works. Are they two separate daemons or does notify-osd work on top of notification-daemon?

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I figured out the problem. The notification-daemon package was installed for some reason and was started by default. I just removed the package, killed the running process and started notify-osd. This only works for the current session, so I had to add "/usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd" to startup applications.
