Does nightshade support truncated fisheye projection?

Asked by Ken

Does anyone know if Nightshade can project a truncated fisheye view? This reduces dome coverage by about 20% in the back (North) but allows increased resolution where it does project.

Yes and no. Nightshade supports truncated projection, however we have not yet created a way to configure the parameters so that you can use this feature. I opened a bug report so you can track the status of this.

Rob,

I'm not a very advanced user of Stellarium/Nightshade... I do know how to go
into the config.ini file and change parameters but that's the extend of it.
I'm not sure what the "TUI menu item 8.8" means. I did locate the
data/distortion.dat file but not sure what to do with it. What I'm trying
to do is to truncate part of the fisheye circle such that East/West diameter
of the circle is 1400 pixels and the North/South is 1050 pixels with the
Northern part of the circle cut off.

Any help you can give is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Ken

Yes, Nightshade supports truncated fisheye projection (where part of the
usual fisheye circle goes off screen). Configure this using TUI menu item
8.8. For more advanced configuration parameters, see the data/distortion.dat
file.
