Installing on Mac OSX

Asked by stardude

I'm new to working with open source applications, but I work in a planetarium and am trying to install Nightshade on my Mac. I downloaded and installed Macports and also downloaded and expanded the Nightshade TAR package. I typed the sudo command into the Terminal window and got this error message:
Port nightshade not found
Can you tell me what I did wrong? I saw from another Q&A that others have been able to install the software on a Mac.
Thanks!

Nightshade is not in macports yet - the best thing to do is wait if you're not familiar with compiling your own software from source. Hopefully the Macports folks will get it in soon (it's up to them - the Nighshade people have done their part)

If you want to build it yourself, use Macports to install the dependencies listed in the INSTALL file from the tarball, then follow the linux/unix build instructions in the same file.
