offline rendering from Nightshade

Asked by Andy Dolph

I'd love to be able to render sequences from Nightshade at arbitrary resolution either image sequence or video file - basically I'd like to use Nightshade as a part of some fulldome video work I'm doing mostly in blender. In any case, I'd like to use Nightshade for the stuff it's good at, create a script that does what I want, and then render it out as an image sequence or video file that I can then composite other elements over the top of.

Its also fairly important that this not be limited to the display resolution of the monitor I happen to be using (I'd like to be able to specify a 2k 3k or 4k square frame and have it render appropriately...

Is there any way to do this.

Thanks!!

Andy

Resolutions of 4k shouldn't be a problem, you just have to edit the config.ini file to what you want and set fullscreen to false.

Your OS does need to be configured to support a virtual desktop of that size, of course.

When rendering for use in other projects, you need to make sure the licenses on any image textures that are visible (like nebulae or the milky way) are compatible with your project, or else use versions that are.

There is no current feature to output a frame sequence, although I did a quick hack at one point to do this in the past. How technical are you?

I'm a fairly technical user/system admin, but I don't do any programing to speak of.

Thanks for your help!

I found my old code and added it to the bzr repository on launchpad. If you have Linux you can build it and try it out (hit CTRL-V to toggle frame recording to the usual screenshot directory). Just be sure to set your maximum_fps in the config.ini to your desired output framerate.

On other platforms I would recommend waiting for the next release.
