Ubuntu 12.10 Openvswitch-plugin-agent version

Asked by Adel

Hello,

Does any one knows about the good versions to use with ;

- Ubuntu : 12.10
- OpenStack : Folsom
  ==> quantum-plugin-agent : 1.4.3
- Openvswitch : 1.4.3 ?

After havinng the problem bellow :

    # File : /var/log/quantum/openvswitch-agent.log
    # ERROR MSG : gre tunnels between virtual switches which is not supported ....etc

I installed "openvswitch-datapath-dkms" and the errros are gone.

But :

   1) ping of my vm is KO
   2) The GRE Tunnels is not created automatically (both on the net-work and the compute nodes)

After creating the tunnels mannualy between the Network-Node & the Compute-Node

    1) The ping of the first VM is still KO.

     2) when I ping the floating IP of my VM : 192.168.1.131 and using tcpdump, i see that

        As a result :
The Network-node, ask to the compute via the good GRE tunnel (manualy created) who is the 10.5.5.2 witch is the
private IP of the VM concerned (witch means for me the the l3-agent works fine). But no answer from the
compute while the bridges are not crrectly added by the plugin-agent ....

So, does any one knows the versions and packages to implement with Ubuntu 12.10, openstack : folsom (openvswitch + GRE) ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

have you rebooted after installing the new openvswitch kernel module? your
kernel may still be running the old kernel module, since apt-get does not
swap it out.

Yes I did.
In the FAQ of OVS website, ubuntu 12.10 (kernel 3.5) is supposed to work with OVS 1.9.x as show bellow.

   Open vSwitch Linux kernel
   ------------ -------------
       1.4.x 2.6.18 to 3.2
       1.5.x 2.6.18 to 3.2
       1.6.x 2.6.18 to 3.2
       1.7.x 2.6.18 to 3.3
       1.8.x 2.6.18 to 3.4
       1.9.x 2.6.18 to 3.8

But the last available version is 1.7.x. How did people to make 1.4.3 ovs working correctly on ubuntu 12.10(kernel 3.5)

For me, after installing "openvswitch-datapath-dkms" I can create GRE tunnels but only "Mannualy".
1) Is there a pkg to add witch make the plugin correctly ask to OVS to create the GRE Tunnels
2) The same question to create ports associated to the VM vnet's !

Thank's.
Thank's.

Why any documentation says that the CTRL-Node need openswitch-agent-plugin too ?
