SFC implementation

Asked by Affan Syed

I am trying to understand the core difference between the networking-sfc implementation for neutron with the architecture for ODL that also adds extensions to support chaining. Are all the current implementation looking at OVS as a solution. Has OVN been considered, or other mechanisms (DPDK, IO Visor etc?).

thanks.

The current implementation has a common driver API and driver manager which allows for different plugable drivers. The first release has an OVS driver and corresponding agent to classify traffic from the source VMs and steer those packets to the service VMs that make up a port chain. Other drivers can easily be added for other SDN technologies such as OVN, ONOS, ODL, etc.

ONOS SDN Controller driver has been implemented and will be released after we get the first version of this networking-sfc feature released (planned for the Mitaka time frame). More SDN controller support is in the plan of our next release.

Can you help with this problem?
