Netflix on Saucy? (Raring version no longer works on Saucy)

Asked by GizmoChicken

Up until earlier today, the version of Netflix Desktop for Raring worked flawlessly on Saucy. However, some of today's updates to Saucy seem to be incompatible with Netflix Desktop for Raring. And indeed, installing those updates (as a "partial upgrade" using Ubuntu's GUI-based software updater) results in the complete removal of Netflix Desktop for Raring.

Upgrading using a terminal:

$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  gvfs gvfs:i386 gvfs-backends gvfs-bin gvfs-common gvfs-daemons gvfs-fuse
  gvfs-libs gvfs-libs:i386 libgphoto2-2 libgphoto2-2:i386 libsane libsane:i386
  libsane-common
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 14 not upgraded.

According to Synaptic, installing several of the above "kept back" packages would result in removal of Netflix Desktop for Raring.

So, now that Netflix Desktop for Raring no longer works on Saucy, will a version for Saucy be available soon?

Best regards,
GizmoChicken

I am currently preparing a new netflix-desktop release that will also be built for Saucy. However, most of the dependencies you care about should be related to the "wine-compholio" package, which I have already built for Saucy. So, you might try upgrading wine-compholio and see if that fixes your dependency issues.

Thanks much for the reply. Actually, I tried installing the "wine-compholio" package for Saucy, but package conflicts also wouldn't allow. But good to hear that a build specifically for Saucy is in the works. Until its released, I'll just continue to hold back the packages that interfere with the version for Raring.

And thanks so much for developing Netflix Desktop. It's great!
