Netflix Icon

Asked by Israel Dahl

This is a very small support request. In Raring Ringtail the icons on the side panel all have transparent backgrounds, whereas Netflix has a solid red background. Could you change the icon so that the red is cropped in closer to the N? Leaving extra transparent space around the icon, would provide a visual cue for when the app is loading (a pulsating red background). Currently there is no visual indicator that Netflix is loading. This is a minor issue to standardize usability.

On another note... do you think adding Netflix searching capabilites into the Dash is possible?

Thanks so much!

Hi Isreal, I do not feel comfortable shipping a custom Netflix icon with the netflix-desktop package. Currently, the package downloads the icon from the Netflix website on the user's behalf in order to create the icon. This method of providing the icon ensures that I am not distributing content (the icon) that is owned by Netflix. So, if you found an official Netflix icon on their website that fit the bill then I'd be happy to change the package to use that icon, but I would not feel comfortable modifying the icon and distributing it with the package.

I'm sure it's possible to use the Netflix Developer API to add search capabilities into the Dash, but it's not something that I'm interested in investing time to figure out at this time.

I see. I guess I didn't think of the issues involved with using their Icon. I understand why you decided to do it that way. As always thank you! You are very helpful and very prompt!
