Any chance of using this with Sky Go?

Asked by Edward Baxter

Hi, I'm just wondering about the viability of using this app to run Sky Go. I've tried making the window open a different url (The one for Sky Go) And the website complains that I need Silverlight 5 to run it. Assuming you are ever able to support Silverlight 5, would Sky Go work without any further modification than the launched url? When I saw the Netflix desktop app I was excited to see Silverlight work, but I don't have a Netflix account to test it on, while I have a Sky one.

Thanks!

I have heard reports that some people have successfully "upgraded" Silverlight 4.x to Silverlight 5.x, though I have not tested this myself. I would propose the following steps:
1) Install Netflix Desktop and open Firefox
2) Use Ctrl+L to visit the DRM test URL:
http://web.sldrm.video.msn.com/d1/sldrm.html
3) Wait for it to build a DRM profile and play the movie
4) Go to the Silverlight 5.x installer site:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=149156
5) Run the Silverlight 5.x installer
6) Attempt to use Sky Go

The reason that this _might_ work is that the portion of Silverlight 5.x that's broken is the profile construction, so if you upgrade a profile from Silverlight 4.x to Silverlight 5.x then it may work.

Hi, unfortunately this didn't work, the Sky Go page seems to crash or possibly just not load the video, I'm not sure. I really appreciate the reply/help though!

The Silverlight DRM test site doesn't work after upgrading to Silverlight 5 either (It just gets stuck on Opening indefinately) So I'll guess Sky Go is a no-go for now :(

It was definately worth a try, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for Silverlight 5 support in the future (And I'll be re-testing Sky Go as soon as there's any news that S5 support is available)

Thanks a lot for helping!

The most recent release of netflix-desktop has some support for Silverlight 5.x, please try:
sudo apt-get install wine-silverlight5.1-installer
and then launch the browser with Silverlight 5.x:
DEPENDENCIES="wine-silverlight5.1-installer" wine-browser

Let me know if that works!
