How do I pass from UNR to normal desktop?

Asked by Fabrizio on 2009-11-14

I've installed ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix in a new netbook. I would like to change the UNR (I think this is its name, anyway I put a link to show you what I mean: http://www.phoronix.net/image.php?id=ubuntu_910_netbook&image=ubuntu_karmicunr_3_lrg) in the classic desktop...
How can I do that?

Apparently you'll have to change to the full desktop version. There used to be a switcher but it's been removed in 9.10.

Kind regards,

You do not have to install the full version of 9.10 to switch to the regular desktop. All you need to do is right click the ubuntu logo on the left of the panel at the top of the screen - and click "Remove from Panel." Then right-click again in the same spot and click "Add to Panel" and select "Main Menu" or "Menu Bar" depending on which one you like better (I went with the normal Main Menu). If the top panel "auto-hides" right-click it once again and select "Properties" and de-select "Auto-Hide." Last but no least go into the Menu -> System -> Startup Applications and de-select "Netbook Launcher" (this will get rid of the Clutter interface that shows all your icons on the desktop.

There you have it - the way Ubuntu looks normally while keeping the drivers and kernel specific to netbooks.

Quick correction -- after doing some reading I found UNR apparently does not have kernel optimization or different drivers of those that come with the normal 9.10 version. Still, if you've already installed UNR and would like to get the normal Ubuntu Desktop without downloading and installing the desktop version then the above instructions are for you.
