Eee PC battery life

Asked by xoo

Hello,

I've just installed UNR on my Eee PC 901.
In Windows XP I’ve had a utility from Asus called SuperHybrid Engine, that changed the frequency of my CPU greatly reducing power consumption. Is there such an utility, service present in UNR?

Thanks.

I use a tool called Eee Control. It allows me to switch the performance between "full", "high", "normal" and "powersave", as well as turning the wifi, camera and card reader on and off.

Try http://greg.geekmind.org/eee-control/

You could also try eee-applet which is in the Ubuntu repository. (I haven't used that myself yet.)

Cheers,
Nigel

Hi and thanks for your answer.

It seems that the Eee Control is not yet compatible with ubuntu 9.04.

However from the CPU Frequency Monitor added to the Gnome Panel I found out that Ubuntu indeed changes the CPU frequency based on use.

Unfortunately this doesn't help the battery life of the Eee PC. It's much shorter then with Windows XP. Also the laptop seems to get pretty hot and this with the CPU freq put at 50%.

This is a major problem :(

Hi,

I finnaly managed to install eee-control and now the battery life is fabulous.
The only problem is that you have to select your "performance" from both the Gnome applet and the eee-control as one sets the cpu freq and the other the fsb freq.

Thank you again Nigel.

FYI, I've been using the Statux EeePC Tray, and it seems to work very well. It is, however, incompatible with EeeControl.
