Update manager won't work

I keep getting this error message:
Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

What do i need to do? I'm new to linux and using UNR (hardy).

On a side note, is there a way to upgrade UNR hardy to the newer Intrepid or Jaunty?

I don't personally run Netbook Remix so I don't know its quirks but have you modified your sources.list or checked/unchecked any repository checkboxes in the Software Sources tool? binary-lpia architecture isn't available on archive.ubuntu.com or security.ubuntu.com; instead you should be pointed at netbook-remix.archive.canonical.com for the official release or the Netbook Remix PPA if you want to hack around:

 * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR
