acer aspire one - problems with wireless LAN

Asked by vikki

Have installed UNR (based on 8.04 Heron) on new Acer Aspire One which has built in wireless LAN card (Atheros 802.11) - the card does not seem to work, it can't see any networks. Also tried using Netgear USB Wireless Adaptor and although this can see my Wireless network connection it cannot seem to pick the signal up (only shows 0%).

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,

I am just an end user. But I have same hardware and same software. The following link work fine for me.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne#Install%20Ubuntu%20Hardy%20Heron%20(8.04.1)%20on%20the%20Acer%20Aspire%20One

Read it, you have nothing to loose.

Hi Andre,

Thanks for the info - I did my own search and found the same article so I followed the instructions which solved my problem, although in the end I couldn't get it to work with Hardy and had to install the UNR for Intrepid and work with that. So I got there in the end.

Thanks for the tip anyway.

Hi Vikki,

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid on the Aspire One and it can't see any wireless networks. How did you solve the problem?

Another issue: is there any tool for operating the wireless on-off switcher to the bottom right-hand side of the aspire one? sometimes it's useful
