seemingly not working on eee pc 900ha

weird. i have installed everything according to instructions. i set up "maximus". i tried to set up the top panel, however i seem to have failed to recognize all needed apps (i'm using l0calized, polish version). the window picker (i think) is there, though, and the windows are being maximized.
still, i don't have the applications on the desktop (just the wallpaper) and this "dock" that appears on the pictures. and anything else, though i don't know if and what, since it's not described anywhere.

pls help.

i run ubuntustudio 8.04, but with adamm's kernel .

okay, got it now: the ume-launcher DID NOT add itself to autostart. this was a bit tricky, since it is not mentioned almost anywhere - in fact at the new wiki page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR), added just now so i didn't use it, it says it does add itself. i found a mention about it on http://www.ubuntumini.com/2008/10/installing-ubuntu-netbook-remix.html only.
i understand also, that the dock is not a part of unr.
btw., please clarify: it is EITHER metacity/unr or compiz? can't have one for one user, and another for a second one?
