update to openoffice 3.0

Asked by YoBen

Hi there,

I believe my question is quite simple but as a true Linux Beginner I am not sure how to proceed. I would like to upgrade my openoffice 2.4 version to the new 3.0. First of all, can I do that on the Ubuntu Netbook remix version and if so could tell me how to do it in simple words or maybe indicate me a helpful link? From what I have seen on the internet so far I would need to use the "software manager" option in the "administration" menu but I cannot find it in this menu!!
Can you help? and many thanks in advance.

YoBen

To find that menu you need to go to System -> Preferences -> Main Menu

Next when the menu editor pops up, on the left side scroll down and select administration under the system category.

Then on the right side place a check on software sources and Synaptic package manager.

After that press close and they should have been added to your top menu bar under System -> Administration.

Hope this helps, sorry don't really know too much about updating Open Office to 3.0 yet, I have never tried.

you will need to add a repository that has Oo3 or go to Open Office web site and download it.

My PPA has nothing to do with Open Office. This is probably just a mix up. Installing my PPA will not fix anything described here.
