Ubuntu NetBook Unmaximized windows

Asked by mike9682000

Hello,

I just installed and fully updated Ubuntu Netbook on my Dell Latitude D510. When I start anything, it comes up with the window maximized. I find that incredibly annoying, is there any way to start all with windows unmaximized and maybe to remember the size and place the window had on previous start?

Thx,
Mike

Hi,

Ubuntu Netbook edition (UNE) is specifically designed for netbook computers, i.e. small computers with typically 9-10" screens with a resolution of 1024x600. Because of these small screens, applications always open in full windows.

Dell Latitude D510 is, if I'm not mistaken, a large laptop with a 15" screen. Thus you better install the regular Ubuntu Desktop version instead of the UNE, then you can use smaller windows.

Hope that helps

Thank you for your answer. However, I just installed and upgraded the software and would like a second opinion before I reinstall everything. Furthermore, I find very odd that I can unmaximize the windows manually, but I can't set the windows to open unmaximized.

Could anyone give a second opinion on this issue?

All,

Here is the solution I found.

I found an application called Maximus is responsible with maximizing windows.

In UNE GNOME desktop, Click:
System--->Startup Applications
In startup application preferences window click "Startup Programs" tab
In this tab, on the list under "Additional Startup Programs" find "Maximus". click on it.
click the "Remove" button on the right hand sice
click the "close" button on the lower right corner
restart and enjoy.

Many thanks to Sam for his links. While they didn't answer the question, they sure did put me on the right track.

Mike
