Newbie - Connecting to SMB - No places icon?

Asked by Rhbmcse

Hi - installed Ubuntu netwook remix for the first time. Every tutorial I can find refers to a places icon to connect to my netgear readynas running smb. From standard, remix doesnt have a places icon (or at least mine doesnt). Ive installed samba file system utilities and samba but i can find a gui anywhere to configure workgroup to connect to, and the 'places' icon is nowhere to be seen. Am I missing components / how do I get to be able to browse my LAN using SMB ?

OK - I found that when I go to File Browser if i click on my home folder (rob) I get to see the network icon. I can see my readynas there but when I click it I cant see my folder so how do I access \\readynas1\username from the file browser?
