Can't find Trash can in netbook version 10.04!

Asked by Manjuvajra

I installed the Netbook version of Ubuntu on an Eee PC with solid state drive. There is only one panel, which is locked, and I can't find the trash can - nor can I add other applets to the panel. Can anyone help?

Try In UNR right-click on the Panel in top-right part of the screen, select "Add to Panel", select "Trash" and press "Add".

Thanks for your suggestions. But... When I right-click on the panel I am not given the option to unlock and the 'Add to Panel' option is greyed out (as is 'Delete this panel' and 'New Panel') I think this may be because I am using the netbook edition.

Try this.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuNetbookEdition/ConvertGnomeSession

##Other workaround.
In order to unlock and customize the panel you need to uninstall the package
ubuntu-netbook-default-settings

e.g. via Synaptic.

No worry when it wants to remove also the package ubuntu-netbook, it's just a metapackage.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MetaPackages

Result: there is no entry anymore in /usr/share/xsessions
means, no login via GDM, it needs
$ netbook-launcher
to switch the desktop, which in case can be added into
system preferences -> startup applications

Or to start in it's own window:
$ netbook-launcher -w
