[karmic] Fluctuating Brightness on Netbook-Remix

Asked by jwesleycooper

I've recently installed karmic netbook-remix on an Intel Atom-based netbook, but there's an issue: the brightness is continually fluctuating up & down a notch, which is very annoying, especially considering that the status-bar for it continues to flash this out on the top right of the screen... Why is this happening, and how can it be fixed?

Your "Atom-based netbook" wouldn't be an MSI Wind, would it? Because they're affected by bug 415023:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal-info/+bug/415023
which seems like it might describe your situation.

The fix for that particular problem is given in the Ubuntu release notes:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/910#No%20Xv%20support%20for%20Intel%2082852/855GM%20video%20chips%20with%20KMS

Actually, it's an Indamixx Netbook, but I think they use a generic Samsung model... anyway, I'll try the fix mentioned, and let you know more of the specifics if it doesn't work.
